If you want to import a pet (an animal that accompanies you and is not intended for sale or for passing on) from another country, you need an official veterinary permit.
Special requirements apply to dogs, cats and ferrets:
- The animal is identified by a tattoo or a transponder.
- The animal has a valid rabies vaccination
These requirements do not apply to
- Invertebrates,
- tropical ornamental fish, amphibians, reptiles,
- birds (except poultry) or
- rodents and domestic rabbits.
The permit (ID card) must be carried on import.
Required for dogs, cats and ferrets:
- Proof of a valid rabies vaccination (complete basic immunization, booster vaccinations not older than 12 months)
- EU pet passport
The fees are determined by the respective schedule of costs and fees. Detailed information can be obtained from the responsible office.
