Personalausweis beantragen

The identity card can be applied for by any person with German citizenship, regardless of their age.

The ID card with online ID function can be applied for since November 1, 2010.

• valid identity document (old identity card if available, otherwise passport, child's identity card, child's passport)
• for children under the age of 16, the consent (declaration) of the legal guardian
• if there is only one parent or legal guardian, additional proof of custody
• a biometric passport photo (according to the photo sample table)
• it may be necessary to submit a birth certificate, e.g. if no identity card or passport was previously available or the data on the identity card differs from the entries in the population register

• German within the meaning of Article 116 (1) of the Basic Law (GG)

• EUR 37.00 for applicants aged 24 and over
• EUR 22.80 for applicants under 24 years of age
• EUR 10.00 for the temporary identity card
• EUR 13.00 surcharge (outside office hours, in the case of a non-competent authority)
• EUR 30.00 surcharge for issuance by consular or diplomatic representation abroad
• PIN reset free of charge
• Activation of online function free of charge
• Fee reduction or exemption possible for people in need (at the discretion of the ID card authority)

Period of validity: 10 years for applicants aged 24 and over

It is not possible to extend the period of validity of identity cards.
