You can apply for a category AM, A1, A2 or A driving license.

With the AM driving license category, you can drive two- and three-wheeled mopeds and four-wheeled light motor vehicles.
With driving license category A1, you can drive motorcycles with an engine capacity of up to 125 cubic centimetres and an output of up to 11 kW.
With driving license category A2, you can drive motorcycles with an output of up to 35 kW and no more than 70 kW.
With category A, you can drive motorcycles and three-wheeled motor vehicles.
The AM, A1, A2 and A driving license categories are issued for an unlimited period.
To obtain the license, you must pass a theoretical and practical test.

• Valid identity card or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
• Application for a driver's license, if applicable
• a biometric photograph in accordance with the passport regulations (size 45x35 mm, portrait format, frontal view).

• Proof of participation in a first aid training course

• You must have your main residence in the Federal Republic of Germany.
• The minimum age for category AM is 15 years.
• The minimum age for category A1 is 16 years.
• The minimum age for category A2 is 18 years.
• The minimum age for category A is 24 years for motorcycles with direct access, 21 years for three-wheeled motor vehicles with a power of more than 15 kW or 20 years for motorcycles with a previous possession of category A2 of at least 2 years.

The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.

The application for the initial issue of a driving license expires if the theory test has not been passed within 12 months of receipt of the test order or the practical test has not been passed within 12 months of passing the theory test.

You will receive your first driving license (with the exception of AM, L and T) on probation. The probationary period lasts 2 years.

• The first issue of a driver's license is the issue of a license to persons who have never held a driver's license before.

• Driving license category A1 entitles the holder to drive motorcycles with an engine capacity of up to 125 cubic centimetres and an output of up to 11 kW, where the ratio of power to weight does not exceed 0.1 kW/kg, as well as three-wheeled motor vehicles with symmetrically arranged wheels and an engine capacity of more than 50 cubic centimetres with combustion engines or a maximum design speed of more than 45 km/h and with an output of up to 15 kW.
• Driving license category A2 entitles the holder to drive motorcycles with a power output of up to 35 kW, a power-to-weight ratio of no more than 0.2 kW/kg and an output power of no more than 70 kW.
• With driving license category A, the applicant can drive motorcycles and three-wheeled motor vehicles.
