Anyone wishing to slaughter or kill domestic animals or ungulates kept as farmed game outside an approved slaughterhouse for their own domestic consumption must register the animal in question with the competent authority:
- for official ante-mortem inspection if the person authorized to dispose of the animal has discovered a disturbance in the general condition of the animal immediately before the intended slaughter which is not due to an accident that occurred immediately beforehand,
- to register for official post-mortem inspection and
- in the case of pigs, horses or other hoofed animals that may be carriers of Trichinella, for official examination for Trichinella.
The notification must state the intended date of slaughter or killing.

per animal for official and veterinary activities in connection with domestic slaughtering

per animal for Trichinella examination of animals that are not subject to ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection in accordance with EC law
European food law does not apply to private domestic use or to the domestic processing, handling or storage of food for private domestic consumption. Nationally, it is mandatory to register for ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection. Domestic pigs and horses must also be tested for trichinae.
