Severely disabled people who are significantly impaired in their mobility in road traffic are entitled to be transported free of charge on local public transport.
Severely disabled people who are significantly impaired in their ability to move around in road traffic are entitled to free transportation on local public transport. This requires a supplementary sheet with a token.
This applies to people with walking disabilities, people with exceptional walking disabilities, people who are helpless, deaf and blind people (G, aG, H, Gl and Bl marks on the severely disabled person's pass). The B mark also entitles the holder to free transportation for one accompanying person.
Free transportation only applies to local transport. Local transport is public passenger transport, i.e. buses and streetcars within the meaning of the Passenger Transport Act, suburban trains and local rail services throughout Germany.
- Determination notice from the pension office regarding the degree of disability and the markings assigned
- Proof of receipt of benefits to secure livelihood in accordance with SGB II
- Proof of receipt of ongoing benefits for living expenses in accordance with SGB VIII or SGB XII or in accordance with §§ 27a and 27d of the Federal Pension Act (BVG)
Prerequisites are the determination of a
- severe disability (degree of disability of at least 50) and the presence of
- the presence of one of the signs:
- G - disabled
- aG - exceptionally disabled
- H - helpless
- Gl - deaf
- Bl - blind
The cost of issuing the token: EUR 40.00 for half a year or EUR 80.00 for a whole year.
The token is free of charge for
- Blind and helpless people (mark Bl or H)
- Recipients of benefits to secure their livelihood in accordance with SGB II
- Recipients of current benefits for living expenses in accordance with the third and fourth chapters of SGB XII, SGB VIII or §§ 27a and 27d BVG
- certain groups of severely war-disabled persons, persons of equal status under the laws that declare the BVG applicable accordingly, and
- certain groups of people persecuted under National Socialism, provided that the requirements were already met on 01.10.1979.
Applications for the use of free transportation, including the issue of the supplementary sheet with the token, are processed as part of the application process for the determination/re-determination of severely disabled status.
In long-distance transport, the severely disabled person must pay the usual fare themselves, even if they have the token.
The necessary accompanying person of the severely disabled person is always transported free of charge in long-distance transport, as in local transport. The only requirement is that the severely disabled person has a B mark on their disability card.
Severely disabled people who are significantly impaired in their mobility in road traffic are entitled to free local public transport (§§ 228 ff. SGB IX).
The responsible authority in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for determining the status of disabled or severely disabled persons and issuing the ID card is the State Office for Health and Social Affairs, Department of Social Affairs / Pension Office with departments in Neubrandenburg, Rostock, Schwerin and Stralsund. These offices are also responsible for processing applications from severely disabled people who wish to claim the right to free transportation.
