Under certain circumstances, the amount of your housing allowance may change.
Here you can find out when this is the case.
You have an obligation to notify the authorities,
- if the rent/charge (excluding heating costs) decreases by more than 15 percent,
- if the income of the household members increases by more than 15 percent,
- if the number of household members decreases
- if the entire household moves
- if one or more household members apply for or receive transfer benefits (citizen's allowance, basic income support),
- when a single household member dies (notification by the heirs or guardians).
The changes may lead to a reduction or, if necessary, to the complete elimination of the housing allowance.
- Proof of income (salary statement, pension statement)
- Bank statements showing the amount of your current rent
- Documents about the costs of the residential property used by you, if you are an owner
- Proof of receipt of transfer benefits, if you are receiving them (citizen's allowance, basic income support in old age and in case of reduced earning capacity)
In the following cases, the approved housing allowance is reduced or eliminated:
- Increase in total income by more than 15%,
- Reduction of the rent or burden to be taken into account by more than 15%,
- reduction in the number of household members.
The housing allowance also ceases to apply in the event of:
- Relocation of the entire household,
- Death of a single household member,
- receipt of transfer benefits (e.g. citizen's allowance, basic income support in old age and in case of reduced earning capacity),
- improper use of housing allowance.
Immediately notify your competent housing allowance authority of any changes that may lead to a reduction and elimination of your housing allowance. The housing allowance authority will then check whether and how the changes affect your housing allowance entitlement and inform you of the result. Overpaid housing allowance will be reclaimed.
If an overpayment has occurred as a result of the change, the housing allowance will be reclaimed accordingly.
If your financial situation or living conditions have improved, the housing allowance may be reduced. A move as well as the receipt of certain social benefits, in which accommodation costs are taken into account, lead to the discontinuation of the approved housing allowance. You are therefore obliged to notify the housing allowance authority immediately of any corresponding changes.
