The civil partnership certificate contains
- the first names and surnames of the civil partners
- at the time the civil partnership was established and
- according to the civil partnership register at the time the certificate is issued,
- Place and date of birth,
- the religious affiliation, if this can be seen from the civil partnership register, and
- the place and date of the establishment of the civil partnership.
A valid identity card or passport is required as proof of your identity. If you are being represented, the person representing you will also need an identity document and a power of attorney. If necessary, proof of legal interest must be provided.
The following persons are eligible to apply if they are over 16 years of age:
- Life partners,
- Ancestors, for example parents and grandparents,
- descendants, for example children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and
- other persons who can credibly demonstrate a legal interest (e.g. by means of a letter from the probate court, a court judgment or an enforceable title).
You can apply for the certificate in person. You can also be represented when applying for or collecting the certificate. You can pay the fee immediately. Depending on the registry office, you can also order the certificates by telephone or in writing (fax, e-mail). Some municipalities and cities also offer forms for electronic ordering on the Internet. In these cases, you must clarify with the registry office whether
- it should send you the certificate or you should collect it and
- how you can pay the fees (e.g. by bank transfer or in cash on collection).
Note: It is not always possible to have the certificate issued immediately.
