Funding for structural and technical measures at and in animal shelters, wild animal sanctuaries and other facilities used to house animals.

What is supported?

Improvement of the animal welfare situation of found animals housed, animals taken away, confiscated or seized or wild animals found sick, injured or helpless for another reason in M-V

Object of the grant

• exclusively construction measures (new buildings, extensions, expansions, conversions and modernizations, measures to improve the hygienic and energetic functionality and measures to improve the equipment, design and equipment of animal accommodation places) in facilities that serve to accommodate stray animals, found animals, officially confiscated animals as well as sick, injured or helpless wild animals for another reason
• running costs for the operation of an animal shelter and, for example, costs for the acquisition of land are not eligible for funding.

Who is eligible for funding?

• Operators of animal shelters (i.e. all facilities that provide accommodation for found animals, animals that have been taken away, confiscated or seized, or wild animals that are sick, found injured or otherwise helpless)
• Animal shelters run by local authorities are excluded from funding.

How is funding provided?

The grant is awarded by way of project funding as partial funding in the form of a non-repayable grant of up to 90 percent. The grant is set at a maximum amount with the approval notice.
The maximum possible grant of 90 percent of the eligible expenditure is awarded to recipients who exclusively fulfill the animal welfare purpose. If a grant recipient generates income from economic activities that do not serve the purpose of animal welfare, the grant is reduced by the percentage of this income in relation to the total income.

In addition to own funds, non-cash personal contributions, project-related donations in kind, public grants and third-party grants can also be recognized as the recipient's own share of the funding.

• The project applied for must be suitable for improving the accommodation or care of animals.

The application for approval of a grant must be submitted to the granting authority in writing using the application form. The granting authority will decide on the grants by written notification.

Approx. 2 to 4 weeks after receipt of the complete documents and expiry of the application deadline (on March 31 of the current year).

The applicant has no legal entitlement to the grant.

The state decides at its own discretion within the scope of the available budget funds.

Payments will be made after submission of the original invoices, taking into account proof of own contributions made.

There is no legal entitlement to funding.
