Health insurance covers the cost of supplementary rehabilitation services.

Supplemental rehabilitation services are provided in addition to medical rehabilitation, in whole or in part, to achieve or maintain the rehabilitation goal. These include, for example:

• Patient training for the chronically ill,
• rehabilitation sports and functional training,
• socio-medical aftercare measures for chronically ill or seriously ill children and adolescents.

The services must be medically necessary and prescribed by a physician.

• Prescription or statement from the attending physician

The supplementary service for rehabilitation

• must be necessary to achieve or secure the goal of rehabilitation.
• Eillness treatment must already have been provided or still be provided by the health insurance fund.

Health insurance companies provide supplemental medical rehabilitation services:

• at discretion
• on medical order

These include, for example:

• Patient education/training
• Rehabilitation sport
• Functional training
• Social medical aftercare for chronically ill children and adolescents

The responsibility lies with the health insurance companies.
