If people in need of care cannot be cared for at home temporarily, it is possible to place them in a care facility as an inpatient for a short period of time.
Are you caring for a relative or loved one and are temporarily unable, not yet able, or unable to provide the required level of care at home? And is partial inpatient care (e.g. day care) not sufficient either? Then the person in need of care (with care degree 2 to 5) is entitled to care in a fully inpatient facility.
This applies:
1. for a transitional period following inpatient treatment of the person in need of care
or
2. in other crisis situations in which temporary home care or partial inpatient care is not possible or not sufficient.
The entitlement to short-term care is limited to 8 weeks per calendar year. Per year, 1612 euros are available to you for these eight weeks.
You can also combine short-term care with preventive care.
You can have part of the costs for accommodation and meals as well as for training and investments incurred during the stay in the home reimbursed by the nursing care insurance fund via the relief amount.
The care allowance you receive for care at home will continue to be paid for 8 weeks at up to 50 percent.
Ask the respective long-term care insurance fund which documents are required and whether there is a special application form.
- Short-term care must be applied for with the nursing care insurance fund
- home care cannot be provided for a temporary period of time
- care degree 2 to 5 is present
- If a person in need of care requires full inpatient care for a limited period of time, short-term care can be granted for up to 8 weeks.
- This is often the case after a hospital stay or when caregiving relatives are ill themselves.
