If your total income has decreased, or your rent burden or number of household members has increased, then you can apply for a housing assistance increase.

You can apply for a higher housing allowance as a subsidy for your housing costs while you are still receiving housing allowance if your total income has decreased, the number of household members to be considered has increased, or your rent or homeownership burden has increased.

These changes may, but do not necessarily, lead to an increase in the housing allowance.

You must attach the following documents to your application for an increase in housing allowance:

• Proof of income (salary statement, pension statement, etc.),
• proof of a rent increase, if applicable,
• documents about the costs of the residential property you use, if you are its owner,
• proof of the change that has occurred.

Conditions for an increase in housing allowance:

• the reduction of income by more than 10%,
• the increase in the number of household members,
• the increase of the rent or the burden in case of home ownership by more than 10%.

These changes may, but do not have to, lead to an increase in the housing allowance.

You must submit the application for an increase to the housing allowance authority responsible for you. Once the application has been processed, the housing allowance authority will issue a decision.

The increase of the housing allowance takes place from the month of the application. As a rule, a retroactive increase of the housing allowance is not possible.

If your financial situation or your living circumstances have improved or changed, this may also result in a reduction of the housing allowance. You are therefore obliged to notify the housing allowance authority immediately of any changes that may lead to a reduction in the housing allowance.
