If you wish to acquire and keep a collection of weapons or ammunition as a result of an inheritance, you must apply for a permit to continue the collection.
If you inherit a culturally and historically significant or scientific/technical collection of weapons or ammunition and wish to continue this collection, you require a permit to do so. You can apply for permission to acquire and own any missing items in the collection.
- Proof of acquisition as a result of an inheritance, e.g. entitlement to inherit, certificate of inheritance
- Proof of your expertise
- Proof of sufficient collection status
- Proof that your weapons and/or ammunition are stored safely
- Proof of the installation of a blocking system, if applicable
- You have reached the age of 18.
- You are reliable within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
- You are personally suitable within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
- You are competent within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
- The deceased was the holder of a permit in accordance with Section 17 of the Weapons Act.
- You are the acquirer of a collection within the meaning of Section 17 of the Weapons Act as a result of an inheritance.
- You have had a blocking system installed on firearms requiring a permit, unless another requirement pursuant to § 8 and §§ 13 ff. WaffG exists.
You can obtain the permit as follows:
- You submit an application and submit the required documents.
- The required documents will be checked and you may have to submit additional documents.
- Your age, your reliability, your personal suitability, your expertise and your need will be checked (§ 4 Paragraph 1 Numbers 1 to 4 WaffG) and, if applicable, the presence of a blocking system.
- A decision will be made regarding the firearms law.
If all the necessary requirements are met, a processing time of 3 months should be sufficient.
- Permit for the acquisition and possession of weapons or ammunition; issued when a collection is continued by heirs, legatees or beneficiaries of the weapons and ammunition collector by condition
- is issued as a result of an inheritance if the collection is continued
- for culturally and historically significant collections, including scientific and technical collections
- not an essentially incomplete collection
- the deceased was the holder of a permit in accordance with Section 17 of the Weapons Act
- Weapons and ammunition are generally not intended for use
- Period of validity: usually unlimited
- Administrative fee: EUR 150.00
- Responsible: District police authorities
