In principle, you are not free to choose which elementary school your child should attend. Your child will regularly attend the elementary school in whose catchment area the parents/guardians live or have their usual place of residence. Only in justified exceptional cases can the responsible authority of the local school allow your child to attend a different elementary school.
With the transition to secondary school, there is an entitlement to admission to the locally responsible school, i.e. the school in whose catchment area the legal guardians live or where the child (pupil) has his/her permanent residence. If corresponding admission capacities are available, there is an entitlement to admission to a school of the parent's/guardian's or adult pupil's choice.
elementary school:
A planned change to another school catchment area must be applied for at the school authority responsible for the place of residence. (can be requested from the school)
The decision on the requested change of school will be sent to the parents/guardians in writing. If a change is possible, the parents/guardians register their child at the new elementary school.
Secondary school:
A planned change to a different school catchment area is made by registering at the receiving school ("Wahl" school) and deregistering at the previous school. Compulsory school attendance must be ensured without any gaps.
