Are you from abroad and would like to work as a tax consultant in Germany? Then you must apply for admission to the aptitude test.

Volltext

As a national of a member state of the European Union or a signatory state to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland who is authorized to provide independent assistance in tax matters in the respective countries, you can take a so-called aptitude test. If you successfully pass the aptitude test, you will receive the same rights as if you had successfully passed the tax consultant examination.

Erforderliche Unterlagen

  • Curriculum vitae with detailed personal and professional details
  • Passport photo (not older than one year)
  • Evidence of formal qualifications or training

Note: The certificates of competence or training must have been issued in a member state or contracting state or Switzerland by a competent authority in accordance with the legal and administrative regulations of that country. They must certify that you are authorized to provide assistance in tax matters in the country in which you acquired the professional qualification.

These certificates are equivalent to training certificates which

  • certify that you have successfully completed full-time or part-time training in another member state or contracting state or Switzerland as part of formal or non-formal training programs,
  • have been recognized as equivalent to the certificates by the other Member State or Contracting Party or Switzerland issuing them, and
  • confer the same rights with regard to access to or exercise of the profession of tax advisor or prepare for the exercise of the profession of tax advisor

Evidence which certifies your professional qualifications which do not meet the requirements of the legal and administrative provisions of the home Member State for access to and exercise of the profession of tax advisor, but which confer rights acquired under the law of the home Member State in accordance with the provisions applicable there, is also equivalent to evidence.

  • Proof of knowledge in examination areas that are to be omitted

The examination is waived in its entirety or in an examination area if you can prove that you have acquired a substantial part of the knowledge, skills and competencies required in the examination as a whole or in an examination area as part of your previous training, through further training or as part of your previous professional activity and that these have been formally recognized by a competent body.

You must submit proof of the knowledge acquired in the course of your previous training in the form of diplomas or equivalent examination certificates from a state or state-recognized university or college or other educational institution.

To prove the knowledge you have acquired in the course of your previous professional activity, you must submit lists of cases, which must regularly contain the following information: File or transaction number, subject matter, time period, type and scope of activity, status.

You must also submit anonymized work samples at the request of the body responsible for the examination.

If the profession is not regulated in the country of origin:

  • Certificate of professional practice (you must also have practiced the profession for at least one year in the previous ten years for at least 16 hours per week in a member state or contracting state or Switzerland).
  • Professional preparation certificate (The authority responsible for issuing the certificate of competence or training certificate must certify that you have been prepared for practicing the profession).

If a diploma, examination certificate or other proof of qualification from a third country has been recognized:

  • If you are applying with a diploma, examination certificate or other evidence of formal qualifications from a third country that has been recognized in a member state or contracting state or in Switzerland, you must provide proof of at least three years of professional practice of at least 16 hours per week in a member state or contracting state or in Switzerland.

If specified in the application:

  • Certificates of the award of academic degrees
  • Official medical certificate. Note: Please only enclose a current official medical certificate, which you must obtain at your own expense. This should provide information on the measures that can be taken to compensate for your physical disability in terms of time and technology. Temporary illnesses or acute injuries are not disabilities

You must submit all certificates, documents and attestations in certified form. Certifications must be notarized or officially certified.

You must submit the documents in German (with a certified translation if necessary).

Note on repeat applications:

You only need to enclose a current CV, a current passport photo and a current employer's certificate as proof of responsibility with a repeat application.
