Recognition of breeding organizations

The breeding supervision of all animal species covered by animal breeding law (equidae, cattle, pigs, sheep and goats) is carried out by state-recognized breeding organizations. These must successfully complete a specific procedure for recognition, which is regulated in both national and European animal breeding legislation. Breeding associations and breeding companies can receive state recognition from the competent authority of a federal state or other member state of the European Union.

In addition to the evidence and documents referred to in the second sentence of Article 4(3) of Regulation (EU) 2016/1012, the application for recognition of a breed society or a breeding business shall contain the following information:

1. the name, address and indication of the legal form of the breed society or breeding enterprise and the names and addresses of the persons authorized to represent it;
2. details of the person responsible for the breeding work (breeding manager);
3. the names and addresses of the head office and the offices of the breeding association or the head office, the offices and operating sites of the breeding enterprise as well as information on the tasks of the operating sites.

Breeding associations and breeding companies from the competent authority of a federal state or other member states of the European Union

4-6 weeks

The competent authority may set a time limit of at least two years for the recognition of a breeding association or breeding business. Recognition may be renewed upon expiry of the time limit.

An appeal against this decision may be lodged with the TLLLR, based in Jena, within one month of notification.
