Seed is produced on so-called propagation areas. The plants on the propagation areas (field stock) must meet certain requirements, which are specified in the Seed Ordinance. Accordingly, each propagation area must be inspected in the year of seed production before the seed is harvested to ensure that the field stock meets the requirements (varietal identity, varietal purity, foreign matter and health status). The competent authority (certification body) may authorize private field inspectors for this purpose. The certification body must additionally inspect at least 5 out of 100 of these areas and revoke the approval if this inspection is carried out repeatedly and inadequately (Section 7 (7) - (9) of the Seed Ordinance).
The applicant must have agricultural and botanical knowledge. They must have a driver's license to be able to reach the propagation areas independently. Approval as a private field inspector requires theoretical and practical training. The decision on approval is made according to suitability. In the event of suitability, a commitment is made on record.
This is a job as an administrative assistant, the work is seasonal and is regulated annually via contracts. The assignment is based on assignment (territorial) and guidance from the recognition office.
