If you have a class B driver's license, you can extend it to include trailer class E.

With driving license class B, you can transport trailers with a total permissible mass of no more than 750 kg. If the maximum permissible mass of the vehicle combination does not exceed 3,500 kg, the maximum permissible mass of the trailer may also exceed 750 kg.

With the driving license class BE, on the other hand, you can couple a trailer with a permissible total mass of more than 750 kg to your vehicle. The permissible total mass of the trailer or semi-trailer must not exceed 3,500 kg.

To apply for the extension of your driver's license to trailer class E, you must already hold a class B driver's license or meet the requirements for the driver's license. For the extension to class BE, you only have to pass a practical test. A theoretical test is not required.

If you want to drive a class B vehicle with a trailer with a total permissible mass of more than 750 kg and the total permissible mass of this combination is thus more than 3,500 kg (up to a maximum of 4,250 kg), this can be done using key number 96.
