The funding is intended to strengthen the fisheries sector in Thuringia in the areas of aquaculture and the fishing industry.

Funding is primarily provided to existing fisheries and fish farms in order to strengthen the regional value chain and rural areas.

Who is eligible for funding?

• Aquaculture companies based or with a permanent establishment in Thuringia
• Companies in the fishing industry (processing of fishery and aquaculture products) and aquaculture companies based or with a permanent establishment in Thuringia
• Institutions conducting fisheries research. The results must serve the objectives of this directive in Thuringia and be made available to the Thuringian fishing industry.

What can be funded?

Productive investments in aquaculture

• New construction and modernization of production facilities, to increase production capacity, to digitalize, mechanize and increase efficiency as well as to improve product quality and control external influences,

• Innovations and knowledge services, also with regard to the social and environmental sustainability of aquaculture,

• Diversification in aquaculture in the broader sense and integration into the regional economy by offering tourism services, for example by using the attractiveness of aquaculture for tourists or achieving synergies between aquaculture and other sectors of the regional economy,

• Projects to diversify aquaculture in relation to other economic activities, such as angling, tourism or fishing, creating complementary business opportunities for aquaculture producers and increasing the acceptance of aquaculture activities,

• reducing the negative impact or increasing the positive impact on the environment and increasing resource efficiency, in particular through measures to reduce or avoid emissions from aquaculture, such as purification of discharge water or reduction of other nutrient inputs or projects for the efficient use of water,

• Conservation and revitalization of ponds as high-quality habitats and as a formative part of the cultural landscape and heritage,

• reducing the impact of aquaculture enterprises on water consumption and water quality, in particular by reducing the quantities of water or chemicals, antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals used or by improving the quality of effluent water, and

• Reducing energy demand and increasing energy efficiency

• Pond maintenance and preservation of the cultural landscape

• Nature conservation-friendly pond management - species protection and habitats

• Nature conservation-friendly pond management - yield targets
