If you would like to be reimbursed for your child's travel costs to school, you must apply to the relevant authority.
School transport is the necessary transportation of pupils to and from school. There is an entitlement to school transport
- for elementary school and special school pupils up to grade 4 if the journey to school is at least two kilometers,
- for pupils at mainstream schools, grammar schools, comprehensive schools and special schools from grade 5 onwards and for pupils in the basic vocational training year, the vocational preparation year, the two-year technical secondary school and those vocational schools that do not provide a vocational qualification, if the distance to school is at least three kilometers.
There is no minimum limit if the journey to school poses a particular risk to the safety and health of the pupils or if pupils have to be transported due to a permanent or temporary disability. From grade 11 of the Gymnasium, including special schools and classes as well as the three-year Gymnasiale Oberstufe associated with the Gesamtschule or a school in accordance with § 4 Para. 4 ThürSchulG, parents or, in the case of pupils of full age, the pupils themselves, can contribute to the transportation costs. This also applies to pupils at vocational grammar schools, two-year technical colleges and vocational schools that do not provide a vocational qualification. The transportation and reimbursement obligation only applies to the shortest route between the pupil's home and the nearest state school that offers admission and enables the pupil to obtain the school-leaving qualification they are aiming for.
If the district, the independent city or the municipality belonging to the district as the school authority does not organize school transport and has not issued any public transport tickets, the application for reimbursement of costs must be submitted to the school administration office using a form.
