Verwendung des Landeswappens Genehmigung

The use of the Thuringian coat of arms is only permitted to state authorities. The so-called Thuringia signet, on the other hand, may be used by anyone.

On January 10, 1991, the Thuringian state parliament passed the law on the national emblem of the state of Thuringia, published in the Thuringian Law Gazette No. 1/1991.
According to this law, the Thuringian coat of arms shows an upright, eightfold red and silver striped, gold-crowned and gold-armed lion on a blue background, surrounded by eight silver stars.

If a first glance at this coat of arms reveals a certain similarity with the coat of arms of the state of Hesse, a closer comparison reveals four important differences:
The Hessian lion is ten times cross-striped, with this striping starting from the top with silver, it is uncrowned, and there are no stars strewn on the shield's background.

Due to the legal provisions on the Thuringian coat of arms, the use of the state coat of arms is reserved exclusively for the authorities and departments of the state.
For use by third parties, the state government has developed a Thuringian coat of arms for all, the so-called Thuringia signet, which can be downloaded from the Internet and used by anyone free of charge and without authorization. You can find it on the homepage of the Free State of Thuringia.
