Would you like to use your deregistered vehicle on the road again? Then you can re-register it with the registration authority.
If you want to use your deregistered vehicle on the road again, you must first re-register it.
This is a re-registration to the same owner if you are the person who was previously registered as the owner of the vehicle. If there has been a change of keeper, this is referred to as re-registration to a different keeper.
You can submit the application in person to the registration authority responsible for you or appoint a representative to do so.
- Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
- Valid electronic insurance confirmation (eVB)
- Valid general inspection and, if applicable, safety inspection
- Valid identification document, e.g. identity card or passport of the vehicle owner
- If the passport is presented, a current registration certificate as well
- Account details or SEPA mandate for collecting the vehicle tax of the vehicle owner
- if available: completed application forms

If you wish to use a new license plate:
- Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
- if already available: new (desired) license plate reserved in advance including PIN
If you are represented by a third party or a third party:
- written power of attorney and identification document of the holder; the authorized person himself must be able to identify himself with his valid identity card or passport.
In the case of re-registration for minors:
- the written declaration of consent of the legal guardians and their identity cards; if applicable, a certificate of sole custody ("negative certificate") in the case of single parents
Depending on the individual case, the licensing authority may request further or other proof from you.
- The vehicle is currently not in use.
- There has been no change of owner.
- You have no outstanding fees and expenses from previous registration processes, otherwise registration may be refused.
- You have no vehicle tax debts of 5 euros or more, including late payment penalties, interest and late payment penalties.
Fees for re-registration are charged by the licensing authorities on the basis of the scale of fees for road traffic measures.
Re-registration via the Internet
You can also apply for re-registration via the website of the responsible registration authority if you were the last owner of the vehicle when it was deregistered and the same registration authority is still responsible for you.
The following are also required
- an identity card with electronic proof of identity function
- a new registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
- a license plate reservation made at the time of deregistration (decommissioning)
Note
The new registration certificate part I (the vehicle registration document) has a concealed, but releasable security code on it, which can be recognized by a silver sticker.
If you apply in person at the licensing authority, your application is usually processed immediately.
