If you have rendered outstanding services to a municipality/municipality, you can be honored by it with an award.
Personalities who have rendered outstanding services to a municipality can be honored by the municipality with awards. The achievements to be honored can be very different, for example economic, municipal political or artistic merits.
Honorary citizens hip: The awarding of honorary citizenship is one way in which the municipality can honor a person under the Thuringian Municipal Code (ThürKO). As honorary citizenship is a personal right, it can only be awarded to natural persons. It is not possible to confer honorary citizenship on a deceased person. The conferral of honorary citizenship has no closer legal significance; it is not associated with any special rights and obligations or even privileges.
Further honors: The municipality can determine further possibilities for occasion-related honors in a statute and, for example, award specially made medals, pins, coat of arms plates or rings of honor. The bylaws can also regulate the procedure for honoring (e.g. proposals for honorees must be submitted in writing to the municipal council / municipal assembly).
State awards: These include, among others:
- the Thuringian Order of Merit,
- the Letter of Honor of the Free State of Thuringia,
- the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and
- the Citizens' Prize.
