Under certain conditions, as a national of an EU member state, another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you can obtain an exemption permit for entry in the Register of Craftsmen.
Nationals of a member state of the European Union, another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland who wish to maintain a commercial establishment in Germany for the purpose of practicing a craft listed in Annex A of the Crafts Code or who wish to work as a business manager shall be granted an exemption permit for entry in the Crafts Register in accordance with Section 9 (1) in conjunction with Section 7 (3) of the Crafts Code for a craft listed in Annex A of the Crafts Code upon application in accordance with the following provisions. An exemption permit is granted to anyone who has the necessary professional experience in the trade in question. This does not apply to the professions of optician, hearing aid acoustician, orthopaedic shoemaker, orthopaedic technician and dental technician.
Proof of professional qualification must be provided in the form of a certificate of training or qualification which certifies that the applicant has been professionally prepared to exercise the profession in question.
This certificate must also be submitted in the original and as a certified German translation.
