The approval of the use of coats of arms is regulated for municipalities and towns in Section 7 (2) of the Thuringian Municipal Code (ThürKO) and for rural districts in Section 90 (2) ThürKO.
If you wish to use the coat of arms of a municipality, you must obtain permission in advance.
The coat of arms of a municipality, town or district may only be used with the permission of the municipality concerned.
Apply for the use of the coat of arms to the administration of the municipality whose coat of arms you wish to use. The local authority will decide on the application and inform you of its decision. The details of the procedure are determined by the local authority in accordance with the law.
Even a modified or stylized coat of arms that could be confused with the coat of arms of a municipality may only be used with the approval of the municipality concerned.
Municipalities may regulate the use of coats of arms, including their approval, by means of bylaws. In the bylaws, the use of a coat of arms without approval may be punishable by a fine as an administrative offense.
