If you would like to work as a non-medical practitioner, you will need permission from the relevant authority.

If you wish to practise medicine without being licensed as a doctor or without holding a license in accordance with the Federal Medical Practitioners' Act, you will need a license in accordance with the Heilpraktikergesetz. Part of the procedure is an official medical examination.

The license entitles you to use the professional title "Heilpraktiker" or "Heilpraktikerin".

The practice of medicine is any professional or commercial activity carried out to diagnose, cure or alleviate illness, suffering or physical injury in humans, even if it is carried out in the service of others.

• Identity card or passport
• Curriculum vitae
• Proof of a successful secondary school leaving certificate or a successful equivalent or higher school leaving certificate
• Official certificate of good conduct, which must not be older than three months
• Medical certificate, which must not be older than three months, stating that there are no indications that you lack the aptitude required to practice the profession due to a physical ailment or weakness of your mental or physical strength or due to addiction
• Declaration as to whether a general Heilpraktiker license, a license limited to therapeutic psychotherapy or another sectoral Heilpraktiker license is being applied for
• Address of the intended place of establishment (practice)
• Residence permit (for nationals from countries outside the European Economic Area) and work permit (for intended practice)
• If applicable, declaration of previous verification attempts (date, place)

• Processing costs for the licensing procedure in accordance with the Thuringian General Administrative Cost Regulations in the currently valid version
• Costs for the knowledge check in accordance with the Thuringian administrative cost regulations for the business area of the Thuringian Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Women and Family in the currently valid version plus expenses
• for the work of assessors during the oral examination per assessor: EUR 50.00

You must have the permit before you start working as a non-medical practitioner. Permission will not be granted if you have not yet reached the age of 25.

A non-medical practitioner license limited to certain areas may differ in the scope of the knowledge check.

For such so-called sectoral alternative practitioner licenses, the examination can be limited to your knowledge and skills. This demonstrates that you are able to close the gap between the existing professional qualification and the independent practice of medicine if you have successfully completed training in a federally regulated medical profession relevant to the sectoral non-medical practitioner license.
