Are you moving into an apartment for which no broadcasting fee has yet been paid? Then you have to register this apartment for the broadcasting fee.

The broadcasting fee secures the financing of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio. With their programs, the broadcasters inform, educate, and entertain many millions of people every day.

Solidarity-based financing enables public service broadcasting in Germany to operate independently of political and economic interests. Therefore, citizens have to pay a broadcasting fee of EUR 18.36 for each apartment, regardless of how many people live in the apartment:

• If you move into an apartment, register the apartment with the contribution service of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio for the broadcasting fee.
• If you live with several adults in the apartment, you can decide for yourself who registers the apartment.
• If you move into an apartment for which a broadcasting fee has already been paid, you do not need to register for the broadcasting fee.

You must register the apartment from the beginning of the month in which you move into the apartment.

The amount of the broadcasting fee and its due date are regulated by law. This means that you have to pay the broadcasting fee even if you have not received a special request for payment.

Exemption and registration of further apartments

In special cases, you can be exempted from the broadcasting fee or apply for a fee reduction.

You are already registered with an apartment for the broadcasting fee? On the online portal you can also register another apartment, for example a second home, secondary residence or privately used holiday apartment.

• You are the owner of an apartment.
• You live in the apartment.
• You are registered in the apartment or named in the rental agreement.
• There is still no broadcasting fee account for the apartment.
• No other person already pays a broadcasting fee for the apartment.

You can register online, by post or by telephone with the Contribution Service for the broadcasting fee.

Online:

• Open the online portal "Your broadcasting fee".
• Click on the field "Register apartment" or enter the web code "BF02" in the search field, then the corresponding online form opens and guides you step by step through the registration process.
• First, provide your personal information and other required information.
  • For example, whether you are already registered with an apartment. If you select the "Yes" option, an input field opens in which you must enter your contribution number.
• In the following step, you enter information about the apartment to be registered.
  • You can also register an apartment at a different address.
  • Specify the time of login in month/year format.
• Then you determine the payment method.
• Select the desired payment rhythm from the defaults.
• Specify whether you want to pay by direct debit or bank transfer.
  • If you select "Direct debit", further input fields open to enter the account data. In this case, you confirm that you authorize the contribution service of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio to collect.
• In the last step, you will see a summary of your data.
  • Check the data provided and correct it if necessary.
  • To make a correction, click on the "Correct" selection field in the corresponding section.
  • After entering all data, you must confirm that you have read the privacy information.
  • Then enter the randomly generated number, the so-called captcha. You can read this on a picture and finally confirm your registration by clicking on the "Login" selection field.
• You will then be taken to an overview page. All data you have entered is summarized there. You can print the data or save it in PDF format.

Alternatively, you can also register by post or telephone.

Postal:

• Access the form for registering an apartment on the website "rundfunkbeitrag.de" in PDF format.
• Fill out, print and sign the PDF form. Then send it by post to the contribution service of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio.

Telephone:

• Call the telephone hotline of the Contribution Service and go through the document together with a contact person.

In certain cases, a reduction or exemption from the broadcasting fee is also possible:

• To do this, select the "Request exemption or reduction" field on the "rundfunkbeitrag.de" website.

If you have already registered an apartment for the broadcasting fee, you may be able to register another apartment:

• On the "rundfunkbeitrag.de" website, select the "Register another apartment" field.
• Follow the completion instructions step by step.

In certain cases, an exemption from the broadcasting fee obligation for the secondary residence is also possible:

• To do this, select the field "Free secondary residence" on the "rundfunkbeitrag.de" website.

Your registration will be processed by the Contribution Service immediately.
