A permanent minimum wage commission regularly adjusts the level of the minimum wage.
When setting the minimum wage, the commission is guided by wage developments in Germany. The law provides for the possibility of adjusting the minimum wage every two years from 2017.
As part of an overall assessment, the Minimum Wage Commission examines which level of the minimum wage is suitable to contribute to an appropriate minimum level of protection for employees, to enable fair and functioning competitive conditions and not to jeopardize employment. When setting the minimum wage, the Minimum Wage Commission is guided by the development of collective agreements.
The Minimum Wage Commission justifies its decision in writing.
The first adjustment to the minimum wage will take effect on 01.01.2017.
After that, the Minimum Wage Commission will decide on the level of the minimum wage every two years.
