Drinking water from the public supply is regularly officially monitored and analyzed in certified drinking water laboratories on the basis of legal regulations from the Drinking Water Ordinance.
The costs for the official drinking water tests are borne by the drinking water supplier.
The respective testing agency will inform you about the costs of self-initiated testing (e.g. of the domestic installation) by recognized drinking water laboratories.
- The checks and analyses are carried out by the drinking water supply company itself or commissioned by it, as well as by the public health department, which is responsible for the proper implementation of the requirements of the Drinking Water Ordinance.
- Drinking water samples are taken regularly in the drinking water treatment plants, at various points in the supply network and in selected public buildings.
- The public health department is the responsible monitoring authority and decides on a case-by-case basis how to proceed if a limit value is not met. It receives technical support from the State Investigation Office in Koblenz.
Information on the quality of the drinking water (degree of hardness, analysis results, etc.) can be obtained from the respective drinking water supply company.
The point of contact for problems with the public drinking water supply is the local public health department (district administration) and the relevant drinking water supply company.
If problems arise in connection with the domestic drinking water installation, the responsibility lies with the respective house owner.
