Rental housing with occupancy and rent restrictions is referred to as social rental housing and is subject to rent and occupancy restrictions.

Socially rented apartments are only let to people who meet certain income limits (occupancy commitment). A certificate of eligibility for housing entitles the holder to move into a social rental apartment.

The landlord may only let a social rented apartment at a fixed maximum rent (rent control).
