For the transfer of a corpse to another federal state, a corpse passport is only required if this or a federal state touched on the journey requires one.
As a rule, a mortuary passport is required for the transfer of a corpse abroad if the destination country or a country touched on the journey requires one. The mortuary passport is issued in several languages.
- Death certificate or a certificate from the registrar stating that the death has been entered in the list of deaths that have been reported but have not yet been notarized
- non-confidential part of the death certificate,
- a written declaration by the funeral director that the body will be coffined in accordance with the provisions of the Funeral Act and this Ordinance and transferred by funeral vehicle,
- if applicable, a permit from the health department if health concerns are raised against the transfer
- in cases of discovery of a body and suspicion of unnatural death, written permission from the public prosecutor's office
If a foreign state requires further information for transport within its territory, this should be included in the mortuary passport.
The mortuary passport must be applied for by the relative responsible for the funeral or by the funeral home in charge of the transport.
