Anhängerklasse E beantragen

If you have a category B driving license, you can add trailer category E to it.

With driving license category B, you may couple a trailer to your car that does not exceed a total weight of 750 kg.

With the BE driving license category, on the other hand, you can couple a trailer with a gross vehicle weight of over 750 kg to your vehicle. The maximum weight of the trailer must not exceed 3,500 kg.

To apply for the extension of your driving license to trailer category E, you must already have a category B driving license or meet the requirements for the driving license. When upgrading to category BE, you only need to take a practical test. A theory test is not required.

• Valid identity card or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
• Application for extension of the driving license
• a biometric photo in accordance with the passport regulations (size 45x35 mm)
• Eye test certificate (not older than 2 years)
• Proof of first aid training (if not already shown to the driving license authority)
• Valid driver's license
• If applicable, a copy of the file card from the last issuing authority (if different from the authority)
• Details of driving school

• You must have a German class B driver's license.
• You must have your main place of residence in Germany.
• You must have reached the required minimum age of 18 for categories B and BE.

The fee is based on the applicable scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.
