After successful determination of the equivalence of your foreign professional qualification or receipt of the professional license in Germany, your residence permit for job search can be extended for a minimum of 12 months.
If you have successfully determined the equivalence of a foreign professional qualification or have received the professional permit, you can be granted a temporary residence permit to look for a job.
The residence permit will be issued to you directly after your previous recognition procedure. An extension of the residence permit is only possible if the maximum period was not exhausted at the time of the first issue. If you cannot find a job during this time, it is not possible to extend your residence permit. You are then obliged to leave Germany.
This residence permit allows unrestricted employment.
- Valid national passport
- Proof of secure livelihood (e.g. employment contract and pay slips, bank statements, submission of a declaration of commitment by third parties)
- Proof of health insurance
- Proof of qualification (certificate of completion, certificate or certificate from your training company or educational institution about the successful completion of an apprenticeship
- 1 current biometric photo
- Please ask the immigration office responsible for you whether you need to submit further documents.
You are already in possession of a residence permit for the purpose of looking for a job after a successful recognition procedure of your foreign professional qualification in Germany, the maximum period of 12 months has not yet been exhausted.
Other general conditions for obtaining a residence permit are in particular:
- a secure livelihood,
- a clarified identity,
- Possession of a valid national passport.
You can only submit an application for a residence permit in person to the immigration authority responsible for your place of residence.
- You submit the required documents in the original and pay the application fee.
- The Immigration Office checks whether the grant requirements are met.
- If all requirements are met, the Immigration Office will take up your biometric data (photo, fingerprints) and order the electronic residence title (eAT) from Bundesdruckerei GmbH.
- As soon as the eAT is completed, it will be handed over to you by the Immigration Office
The processing time depends on the capacity utilization in the local immigration office.
Application before the expiry of the current residence permit. An interview 4 to 6 weeks before the previous residence permit expires is recommended.
The residence permit, including the extension period, is limited to a maximum of 12 months.
