If you want to run a private school as an alternative school, you can receive state recognition under certain conditions and thus participate in state private school funding.
In some federal states, state recognition gives alternative schools the right to hold examinations and issue certificates such as the Abitur itself.
As a private provider of alternative schools canapply for state recognition once they have been granted approval to operate the school and, as a rule, have successfully run the course for three years. After recognition as a state alternative school, you are also entitled to public financial aid.

The school supervisory authority at the Supervisory and Service Directorate is responsible for processing applications for recognition as an alternative school.
