Would you like access to official information or environmental information? Then you can apply to the relevant office.
You have the right to access official information and environmental information from any state authority, municipal authority and any authority of other legal entities under public law subject to the supervision of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The prerequisite is that it is an administrative activity. This is intended to increase transparency in public administration and also enable better control.
The right to access information is independent of place of residence or domicile and is therefore not restricted to citizens of Rhineland-Palatinate.t.
is entitled to access:
- any natural person,
- any legal entity under private law
- any association of citizens without legal capacity,
- any legal entity under public law, insofar as it is a holder of fundamental rights.
The application must state your identity and a precise description of the information requested. If necessary, the authority will ask further questions.
You do not have to provide a specific reason for your interest.
There are generally no costs for simple information and corresponding inspections. Even if your application is rejected, you will not incur any costs.
However, there are costs (fees and expenses) for applications that involve a certain amount of work. These are based on the General Fee Schedule of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.
Submit the request for access to information in writing, verbally, for recording or electronically (by e-mail) to the responsible office.
Requests are usually processed immediately, at the latest within one month. In the case of large or complex requests or if third parties are involved, processing may be delayed. You will be informed accordingly.
The information will be made available to you by providing information, granting access to files or in any other way. You can apply for a specific type of access to information. This will only be deviated from for important reasons, e.g. if the type of access requested would involve a significantly higher administrative burden.
In some cases, you may only receive partial access to the requested information, no access at all or - in individual cases - only at a later date.
The reasons for refusal are defined by law. For example, the protection of public security or trade and business secrets may prevent the disclosure of information. In certain cases, third-party participation procedures are carried out.
