§ Section 18 (3) of the Private Schools Act (PrivSchulG )
Compulsory school attendance can be fulfilled not only at public schools, but also at independent schools. Independent schools admit pupils in accordance with the regulations that apply to state schools, but may stipulate additional admission requirements.
When registering at an independent school, the same child data is collected as when registering at a public school:
- Surname, first name, date of birth, place of birth, gender, address, telecommunication connections, religious affiliation, nationality, date of arrival of children not born in Germany, predominant family language, impairments and illnesses (insofar as they are relevant to school attendance), number of siblings, date of first enrollment, information on attendance at a kindergarten as well as parents' names, addresses and telecommunication connections.
Admission to independent schools is subject to the same conditions as public schools:
- school age
- if applicable, registration of children not yet of compulsory school age
- Successful attendance of elementary school as a prerequisite for admission to lower secondary level schools
- if applicable, special admission requirements for particular types of school or school types.
Independent schools can also set their own admission requirements, z. B.
- Religious affiliations for denominational schools
- suitability for special educational concepts
- special performance requirements.
free of charge
School fees may not be charged, with the exception of state-approved but not yet state-recognized alternative schools and supplementary schools.
Admission to an independent school is based on an application procedure that generally takes place during the same periods as at state schools. Any deviations in dates will be announced by the independent schools. In the event of a refusal of admission to an independent school, it is always possible to register at a state school.
The decision on admission to an independent school is usually made within a few days, so that in the event of a rejection, it is still possible to register at a public school within the deadline.
The registration deadlines for public schools apply; any different deadlines for independent schools will be announced by them.
Admission to an independent school is based on the conclusion of a school contract under private law, which establishes a school relationship under private law. Appeals under civil law are possible.
