If you would like to obtain a higher-qualification vocational qualification, you must take a further training examination.

With an advanced training examination in accordance with the Vocational Training Act, you can acquire higher-qualifying educational qualifications at several advanced training levels.

You must register before you are admitted to the advanced training examination. You should have the admission requirements for the advanced training examination checked beforehand. The admission requirements depend on the qualification you are aiming for. The office responsible for your advanced training examination will be happy to advise you on the relevant admission requirements.

The advanced training examination is carried out by aand assessed by an examination board.

• Depending on the training level:
  • 1st advanced training level: qualification in a recognized training occupation
  • 2nd advanced training level: Qualification in a recognized training occupation or a qualification from the 1st advanced vocational training level
  • 3rd advanced training level: Qualification at the 2nd advanced vocational training level

Further training examinations are subject to a fee. The examination fee is based on the respective fee regulations of the regionally responsible body.

Before you decide to take a further training examination, you should seek advice from the competent body on the examination admission requirements. If necessary, take advantage of preparatory training courses.

• To take the examination, submit an application to the relevant office to register for the examination
• Once you have been successfully admitted to the advanced training examination, you will receive an invitation to all parts of the examination.
• As a rule, you will be informed of the preliminary results of the written examination before you take the last oral or practical part of the examination.
• If you have taken part in all parts of the advanced training examination, you will usually receive notification immediately as to whether you have passed the advanced training examination.
• Once your overall result has been determined by the examination board, it will be sent to the relevant authority. Your examination certificate will then be issued and sent to you.

The entire training examination process takes approx. 6 to 12 months. The duration depends on the desired advanced training examination and the examination performance specified therein.

The training examination procedure includes

• Issue/sending of the examination certificate

The registration deadline for the final examination is approximately 1 to 3 months before the first examination date. You can find out the exact registration deadline from your regional office.

• Passing the examination: trainees may use the qualification title of the respective further training level. These can be, for example

  • Bachelor Professional, Master Craftsman or Master Craftswoman, as well as Business Administrator or Specialist Assistant

• Responsible: usually a responsible chamber

Contact the chamber responsible for your vocational training. This can be

• the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for vocational training in non-trade professions,
• the Chamber of Skilled Crafts for vocational training in professions under the Crafts Code,
• the Chamber of Agriculture for vocational training in agricultural and rural domestic science professions
• the Chamber of Lawyers, Patent Attorneys and Notaries as well as the Notary's Office for the vocational training of specialists in the field of law,
• the Chamber of Auditors and the Chamber of Tax Consultants for the vocational training of professionals in the field of auditing and tax consultancy,
• the Chambers of Physicians, Dentists, Veterinarians and Pharmacists for the vocational training of healthcare professionals.

There are other competent bodies,for example for bodies in the area of public law and the churches.
