A temporary machine-readable passport will only be issued if the time even for issuing an express passport (production time on working days within 72 hours) is too short and it can no longer be handed over in time before the first use. The urgency must be proven by means of suitable documents. The validity is limited to a maximum period of 12 months.
- current biometric photo, in passport format (45 x 35 mm) in portrait format, frontal photo without border, without headgear and without covering the eyes

- a civil status certificate (birth/marriage certificate) may be required, e.g. if the spelling of the name is unclear
You must come in person to apply for a passport (e-passport). The application will be completed on the spot with the clerk. All you have to do is sign it.
The personal appearance is essential because of the handwritten signature on the application form and the identity check. You can prove your identity with an official photo ID. This is usually the identity card or the previous passport.
However, the passport can also be collected by a person authorized in writing who must provide proof of identity.
It is not permitted to subsequently change the name in the temporary passport. The loss of a temporary passport must be reported immediately.
