Do you suspect that a child or young person in your environment is a victim of violence or abuse? Then talk to them or contact the youth welfare office.
Children and young people who are victims of maltreatment, neglect or abuse urgently need protection and help. People from the social environment, such as educators, teachers, neighbors or friends, often notice quite early on that a child's behavior has changed, that they are withdrawing or - on the contrary - displaying unusually aggressive, "out of character" behavior.
The youth welfare offices are competent contacts when it comes to clarifying a suspicion of child endangerment and should therefore be contacted at an early stage if there are any indications of this. People who are in professional contact with children and young people are entitled to advice from a specialist with experience in this field when assessing a risk to the child's welfare.
Doctors and other medical professionals can call 0800/1921000 free of charge around the clock if there is a suspicion of abuse or neglect.
If you notice signs of neglect, mistreatment and abuse of children or adolescents in your institution, neighborhood, among your friends or relatives, first seek a direct conversation with those affected and let other people in your social environment know that you are concerned. If you have the impression that talking directly to the parent or guardian will not lead to an improvement in the child's situation or may even put the child at further risk, contact the authorities, such as the youth welfare office or the police.
Violence against children or young people should be reported/reported immediately to the youth welfare office or the police.
Please contact the youth welfare office in your district or city. If you have the feeling that there is an acute danger, you can also contact any police station.
