In order to strengthen training in geriatric care, the state of Lower Saxony grants a premium for each training place made available as well as subsidies for school fees at privately run schools for the elderly.

Premium for apprenticeships in geriatric care in Lower Saxony

Starting on 01.08.2009, a premium will be granted for all existing and new training contracts as a geriatric nurse.

Recipients of funding are the sponsors of the training care facilities.

The amount of the premium is aimed at outpatient facilities as well as inpatient facilities that have training relationships to the number of nursing places according to the ratio of 1:19 or greater (e.g. 1:10). It amounts to 85.00 euros per month for each apprenticeship.

The basic prerequisite for receiving the premium is the payment of a training allowance of at least 80% of the collectively agreed training allowance according to the collective agreement for trainees of the federal states in nursing professions (TVA-L Pflege).

Contributions to school fees at privately run nursing schools for the elderly in Lower Saxony

Starting on 01.08.2009, a subsidy will be granted for all existing and new school contracts for training in geriatric care.

Funding recipients are the privately run schools for the elderly. The subsidy is to be deducted from the school fees to be paid by the pupils. After the waiting period (6 months) no tuition fees will be charged to the student.

For each school contract, a monthly subsidy is currently paid up to the amount of the school fees, up to a maximum of 200 euros.

The premium for the training care facility and the subsidy for school fees are not offset against each other.

There are no fees.

A benefit is considered for existing and new school contracts or training contracts from 01.08.2009.

School contracts and training contracts that are terminated in the first six months of their existence are not eligible for funding.

A separate application is required for each institution and per half-year (01.08. to 31.01. and 01.02. to 31.07.). Nursing schools for the elderly must submit an application no later than two months after the end of the waiting period or the beginning of the respective school year.
