As an impaired person (so-called injured party), you receive medical treatment for health impairments that have been recognized as a consequence of an injury or have been caused by a recognized consequence of an injury. The purpose of medical treatment is to

• To eliminate or improve health disorders or the impairment of the ability to work or earn a living caused by them,
• to reduce suffering,
• to avoid, overcome or reduce the need for care or to prevent its aggravation,
• to remedy physical complaints
• to alleviate the consequences of the injury
• or to enable the fullest possible participation in society.

As a severely disabled person, you will also receive medical treatment for health disorders that are not recognized as the result of an injury. However, this comprehensive entitlement does not apply if you have corresponding claims against another social insurance provider (e.g. health insurance fund). Restrictions also apply, for example, if you exceed certain income limits.

Furthermore, you and your dependants can receive health treatment benefits. However, your entitlement to health treatment is excluded if you already have a corresponding entitlement from another social insurance provider (e.g. health insurance fund). Restrictions also apply to certain income limits.

Health and medical treatment benefits are generally provided as benefits in kind.

• Application (informally possible)
• Notice of recognition as a disabled person or severely disabled person
• Insurance card from the health insurance company
• Certificate of the consequences of injury from the pension authority

Recognition as an authorized person (notice of recognition)

If only the consequences of injury are treated, no co-payments or deductibles may be charged.

Health and medical treatment benefits are generally provided on application. The following benefits are provided directly by the competent pension authority and must be applied for there:

• Dental prostheses,
• medical aids,
• exercise therapy,
• speech therapy,
• occupational therapy,
• stress testing,
• occupational therapy,
• bathing cures,
• substitute services,
• physical exercises for the disabled,
• Lump sum for clothing and laundry wear

All other benefits are provided by your health insurance fund for pension administration.
If you are not a member of a health insurance fund, please contact a statutory health insurance fund of your choice.

Medical treatment is usually provided immediately. Certain benefits (e.g. orthopaedic treatment, dental prostheses) are subject to an approval procedure and should therefore be applied for in good time.
