With the successful completion of the second state law examination, your legal preparatory service or the examination procedure ends. Upon successful completion of the examination, you acquire the qualification to hold the office of judge and are entitled to use the title "assessor".
After successful completion of the examination, a certificate will be issued by the State Judicial Examination Office.
In Lower Saxony, eight exams of five hours each and an oral examination must be completed. The oral examination consists of a presentation of the file and four examination interviews.
If the second state law examination is not passed in the first attempt, it can be repeated once.

- In Lower Saxony, the examination procedure from the preparation of the exams to the acceptance of the oral examination usually takes six months. If a repeat examination becomes necessary, the examination procedure is extended by approx. three months.
- The grade improvement process also takes six months.
- You must apply for the application for grade improvement at the Examinations Office at least 2 weeks before the desired examination date. You must also pay the examination fee within this period. If there is a shorter period of time between the first oral examination and the next examination date, you can still take the retake to improve your grades on the third examination date following the oral examination.

- The application for grade improvement must be submitted to the State Judicial Examination Office within three months of the announcement of the result of the examination successfully passed in the first attempt. Admission is subject to the payment of the examination fee.
