If you are looking for a place to study in Germany, you can apply for a residence permit with a maximum validity of 9 months.
You can obtain a residence permit for the purpose of applying for a degree if you would like to study in Germany but have not yet been allocated a place or if there is no place available for sure.
The residence permit for the study application is a temporary residence permit. It can be granted for a maximum of nine months.
If you have not yet reached the age of 18, the persons entitled to personal care must agree to your planned stay for the purpose of applying for a degree.
- Valid passport
- Recent biometric photo
- Visa, if required
- Proof of subsistence (e.g. declaration of commitment, blocked account at a bank, proof of parents' income or similar)
- Lease
- Proof of your health insurance
- Proof of a corresponding school-leaving certificate
- Proof of existing language skills (e.g. a certificate) or practice the intended acquisition of language skills
- If applicable, consent of the persons entitled to personal custody

- Appeal against the decision of the foreigners authority within one month of notification
- Action before the court named in the notice of appeal if the appeal is not granted
- An action may be brought before the competent administrative court against a negative decision of the Foreigners' Registration Office.

- Residence permit entitles the holder to work up to 20 hours per week and for trial employment of up to 2 weeks in total.
- Residence permits are issued for a maximum of 9 months, extension is excluded.
