If you want to use the job title of anesthesia technician, you need a permit.

The work as anesthesia technician, is reserved for certain people in Germany. This is regulated by law.

This means: In order to work in Germany as an anaesthetic assistant in Germany, you need a state permit. With this permit, you can use the job title and work in the profession. You must apply for it.

As with all medical-technical professions, the professional permit is issued after you have passed a state examination, provided you have the necessary health and personal aptitude (reliability).

The license is issued if you

• have passed the state examination as an anesthesia technician following training,
• have not been guilty of any conduct that makes you unreliable to practice the profession,
• are medically fit to practise the profession,
• have the German language skills required to exercise the profession.

Is based on the respective administrative fee schedule of the federal state or on the fee statutes of the authorities responsible under federal state law.

You must first apply for a permit from the competent authority, in this case the lower health authority (public health department).

Once you have submitted the application and all documents are complete, the competent authority will check whether you meet all the requirements.

If you meet all the requirements, you will receive the permit.

You may only start working once you have received the permit.

You will need the following documents to process the application:

• Copy of the certificate confirming that you have completed the training period prescribed by the relevant law and passed the state examination or notification of the equivalence of the foreign professional qualification
• Certificate of good conduct . This is confirmation that you have not been guilty of any behavior that would make you unreliable to practice the profession
• If applicable, extracts from the criminal records of all countries in which you have resided within the last 5 years,
• Medical certificate stating that you are not unfit to practise the profession from a health point of view,
• to have the necessary knowledge of the German language to exercise the profession (certificate of language proficiency of at least level B2)
• Proof of identity
