Schule des Zweiten Bildungsweges

The second educational pathway comprises the school types evening grammar school and college. Anyone who is at least nineteen years old, has completed vocational training or has worked for at least three years and has obtained an intermediate school leaving certificate (Realschulabschluss) is entitled to attend the Abendgymnasium and the Kolleg. If the school leaving certificate cannot be proven, a preliminary course must first be attended and successfully completed.

School attendance at the Abendgymnasium and Kolleg takes three years. The aim of the course is to obtain the general higher education entrance qualification. The Abitur examination is conducted according to the same procedural regulations as at the Gymnasium. It is also possible to obtain the school-based part of the Fachhochschulreife.
