The municipal electoral authority keeps an official voters' register for each electoral district. Only those who are entered in the electoral roll can exercise their right to vote in state parliament elections.
The basis for entry in the voters' register is the municipality's population register. In principle, citizens entitled to vote who are registered as having their main place of residence in the municipality on the 35th day (cut-off date) before the state parliamentary election are entered ex officio. The municipality will notify you in writing by the 28th day before the election at the latest.
If you have not received a polling card by the 28th day before the election, you should immediately check with your municipality whether you are on the electoral roll. If this is not the case, you can apply to be entered.
If your circumstances are different, e.g. you moved to the municipality after the 35th day before the election or your permanent residence is a secondary residence, please contact the municipal electoral authority immediately.
All citizens within the meaning of Article 3 (1) sentence 1 of the Constitution of the State of Brandenburg who on election day
- have reached the age of 16,
- have had their permanent residence or habitual abode in the state of Brandenburg for at least one month and
- are not excluded from the right to vote.
You can apply to be entered on the electoral roll in writing to the electoral authority in your municipality.
Your application must contain at least the following information and be signed by hand:
- First name and surname
- date of birth
- exact address
- wording "Application for entry in the electoral roll"
The municipality will then check your eligibility to vote. If you appear in person, you will be added to the electoral roll immediately if the check of the requirements is successful.
You must submit the application no later than 15 days before the election (Section 14 (1) BbgLWahlV)
- the municipality in which you live (if you have more than one residence, your main residence or permanent residence as a secondary residence)
- for persons without a home: the municipality in which the application is submitted
