If there is an accident involving wildlife on the road, whether alive or dead, the accident site should be secured with a warning triangle and/or hazard warning lights to protect following traffic and prevent further accidents.
Dead game should only be pulled from the road if this is possible without endangering yourself (use protective gloves!). Injured game should not be touched or disturbed in any other way (stress for the animal, danger to self). An injured animal may only be killed by an authorized and competent person (e.g. the person authorized to hunt). As a rule, veterinary treatment is not possible (with the exception of an accident involving a wolf - in this case, a vet must be called in by the person recording the accident).
Please stay as far away from the injured animal as possible, as the closer you get to the injured animal, the more stressed it becomes.
Depending on the situation of the individual case, the insurance company will cover the damage to the vehicle for partially or fully comprehensive insurance. The prerequisite is that the wildlife accident is proven. For this purpose, the persons or authorities who must be informed of the accident issue the relevant certificates. Traces of game on the vehicle should be photographed.
Note to avoid wildlife accidents - there is an increased risk of accidents:
- basically in the morning and in the evening at dusk
- in the field/forest transition area
- Also in the months of July and August when deer are in leaf
!!! Game can be on the move at any time of day or night!!!
