The hunting license is issued by the lower hunting authority if the applicant meets the following conditions:
- Passed hunter's examination. The exact regulation of the hunting examination in Germany is the responsibility of the federal states. The hunting examination concludes with a complex, three-part state examination.
- Proof of hunting liability insurance (at least €50,000 for property damage and at least €500,000 for personal injury)
- Personal reliability in accordance with the Weapons Act (WaffG), which requires, among other things, an impeccable certificate of good conduct
- Minimum age of 16 years
Documents to be submitted when applying for a hunting license for young people:
- Proof of having passed the hunting examination
- identity card
- policy of the hunting liability insurance
- Two passport photos for the initial application
- If necessary, additional request from the lower hunting authority
To hunt, you must have passed a hunting examination, have hunting liability insurance and be personally and physically fit.
Administration fee: EUR 10.00 - 80.00 per hunting year depending on the type and duration of the hunting license
Hunting tax: EUR 5.00 - 25.00 depending on the type of hunting license
Written application for a youth hunting license to the lower hunting authority where the hunter has his or her main residence.
Can be issued from the date of application in the current hunting year at the earliest. Application must be made in good time before the existing hunting license expires. Regularly valid from the start of the hunting year on April 1st of the year until March 31st of the following year or one or two years later.
Procedures for issuing youth hunting licenses sometimes require additional documents, which are requested from the applicant by the lower hunting authority in individual cases.
In justified individual cases, the lower hunting authority may require the submission of an official or specialist medical report on mental and physical aptitude in accordance with Section 17 (6) of the Federal Hunting Act.
Hunting licenses are also available for falconers and foreign nationals.
