§ Section 1 (1) of the Dietary Assistants Act

You can apply to the State Office for Occupational Safety, Consumer Protection and Health (LAVG) for permission to use the professional title of dietician.

Working as a dietitian in Germany is governed by precise regulations. This means that in order to work as a dietitian in Germany, you need a state permit. With this permit, you can use the job title "dietician" and work in the profession.

The permit to use the professional title "dietician" or "dietary assistant" is required to practice the profession in question. It must be applied for. The license will be granted if you

• have not been guilty of any conduct that makes you unreliable to practise the profession,
• are medically fit to practise the profession,
• have passed the state examination for dieticians after 3 years of training,
• have the necessary knowledge of the German language to exercise the profession.

- Original official certificate of good conduct (not older than 3 months)

- Proof of health suitability for practicing the profession of dietician (not older than 3 months)

• Passed the state examination for dieticians after 3 years of training
• health suitability (this means that you are mentally and physically able to work as a dietician)
• Reliability for working as a dietician
• No criminal record.
• Proof of the German language skills required for the job. This is normally language level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The costs generally depend on the time and effort required for processing.

You can apply for permission to use the professional title "dietician" in writing using the form provided:

• Download the form online and print it out.
• Complete the form and add the necessary supporting documents.
• Submit the application documents to the LAVG.
• You will then receive the required permit by post and transfer the required fee.

• LAVG will inform you if documents are missing
• for complete documents: 1 month

None.

Sometimes documents are still missing for the procedure. The LAVG will then inform you by when you must submit the documents.

Comparable training qualifications obtained outside Germany can be recognized as equivalent in accordance with Section 2 (2) DiätAssG.

If you have completed equivalent training outside Germany, you may be able to work as a service provider in Germany temporarily and occasionally (in accordance with EU law) without a permit in accordance with Section 1 DiätAssG. You must notify the LAVG of this in advance.
