The activity as a midwife or maternity nurse in Germany is regulated by precise regulations. This means that in order to work as a midwife or maternity nurse in Germany, you need a state permit. With this permit, you are allowed to use the professional title "midwife/maternity nurse" and work in the profession.

Permission to use the professional title of midwife or maternity nurse is required for the exercise of the aforementioned profession. It must be applied for. Permission will be granted if you:

• have completed the training period required by law and passed the state examination
• have not been guilty of conduct from which unreliability for the exercise of the profession arises,
• are suitable for the exercise of the profession from a health point of view,
• have the knowledge of the German language required for the exercise of their professional activity.

- Proof of health suitability for the profession of midwife or maternity nurse (not older than 3 months)

• Passed state examination for midwives/maternity nurses after 3 years of training
• Health suitability (This means that you can work mentally and physically as a midwife/maternity nurse.)
• Reliability for working as a midwife/maternity nurse

• Proof of German language skills required for the job. This is usually language level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

• Download and print the form online.
• Fill out the form and attach the necessary supporting documents.
• Submit the application documents to the LAVG.
• You will then receive the desired permission by post and transfer the fee provided for it.
