Municipalities can notify the Ministry of the Interior responsible for the state of the introduction and/or modification of a municipal coat of arms. Approval is required if no approval has previously been granted by the state archives to be involved.

A coat of arms is a symbol in the form of a shield created according to certain rules. Coats of arms represent people, families, certain groups of people or personified objects, organizations and communities. Each federal state has its own coat of arms. In addition, there are the coats of arms of the municipalities.

The use of the respective coat of arms of the community requires the approval of the respective municipality.

On the use of the municipal coat of arms: none

For approval of the municipal coat of arms:

At the State Main Archive for expert opinions:

1. two colored final artworks (DIN-A4) or an image file of equivalent quality,
2. a justification of the coat of arms motif and
3. the resolution of the respective representative body to introduce or change the coat of arms.

Subsequently to the Ministry of the Interior:

1. a colored final artwork (DIN-A4) or an image file of equivalent quality,
2. the expert opinion of the Brandenburg State Archives and
3. the resolution of the respective representative body to introduce or change the coat of arms.

Request from the relevant local authority whether the coat of arms may be used.

The use of the coat of arms of a municipality in a modified or stylized form, which could lead to confusion with the coat of arms of a municipality, is also not permitted without consent.
